With the changes and upgrading of the Lunascan web site and the
addition of the Lunascan YouTube, I thought it would appropriate to
create a directory for the event known as u092196 and have it linked
on the YouTube page. The event was recorded 23 years ago this month.
There was one serious attempt to explain what we have documented,
but I am not sure the date of that attempt which was at least a
decade ago. Some researchers, using our UTC-timed event, along with
detailed star maps of the time, concluded that a particular star was
the culprit. What they didn't know, and refused to accept, was that
no matter what maps were used there was always a star in that
location. Furthermore, at no time prior or afterwards had the
project ever filmed such an event, even when brighter stars or
planets were in occultation. The reason being that the brightness of
the reflected light from the lunar surface was too bright with an
object that close to the lunar limb.
